Opt-in

Get proper consent before texting customers.

Opt-in consent

You must have permission before sending promotional texts. Even helpful reminders need a clear basis if the customer never expected texts from you.

Opt-in form example

Good opt-in language

"By providing my number, I agree to receive appointment reminders and service texts from [Business Name]. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel."

Methods that work

  • Checked box on intake forms (not pre-checked)
  • Verbal consent at checkout with posted notice
  • Keyword campaigns ("Text JOIN to…")
  • Existing customers who gave their mobile for service texts

What to record

Save who opted in, when, and how. Screenshots or CRM notes are fine.

Double opt-in for marketing

Consider confirming: "Reply YES to confirm weekly deals." Higher trust, fewer complaints.

Re-permission

If you have not texted a list in over a year, send a fresh opt-in before campaigns.
